Actor James Arness who previously played Marshal Matt Dillon on the western television show “Gunsmoke” for 20 years passed away on Friday of natural causes at age eighty-eight. The actor left behind a letter for his fans which was posted up on his website following his death, the letter discussed his self described “wonderful life” and describes himself as being “blessed with some many loving people and great friends”
The actor served in the United States Army during World War Two and resulted in Arness being injured in 1944 at Anzio, an Italian beach that is said to have been the largest and most violent military conflict in the history of mankind, Arness was wounded in the leg and received a Purple Heart. Arness’ first film was “The Farmer’s Daughter” and was followed by a lengthy career in film and television. The actor is survived by his wife, two sons and six grandchildren.
