Mary J Blige's artist Starshell is out with her new single Birthday Girl.The 23 year old hit the scene back in 2008 when she signed with Universal via Mary J Blige Matriarch Record company.

Insipired by several soul singers in her family including her mother Cissy Houston,cousins Dionne Warwick and the late Dee Dee Warwick as well as godmother Aretha Franklin Houston began singing with New Jersey's junior gospel choir at 11.After she began performing alongside her mother in nightclubs in the New York City area she was discovered by Arista Records label head Clive Davis.In 2011 she released seven studio albums and three movie soundtracks all of which have diamond,multi-platinum,platinum or gold certification.
Houston is the only artist to chart seven consecutive number one Billboard Hot 100 hits including Saving All My Love,How Will I Know,Greatest Love Of All,I Wanna Dance With Somebody,Didn't We Almost Have It All,So Emotional and Where Do Broken Hearts Go.Houston is the second artist behind Elton John and the only female artist to have two number one Billboard 200 Album Awards(formerly Top Pop Awards) on the Billboard magazine's year-end charts.Houston's 1985 debut album Whitney Houston became the best selling album by a female act at the time of it's release.The album was also named Rolling Stone's best album of 1986 and was ranked number 254 on Rolling Stone's list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Houston's second studio album Whitney(1987)became the first album by a female artist to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart.Houston's crossover appeal on the popular music charts as well as her prominence on MTV starting with her first video How Will I Know influenced several African American female artists to follow in her footsteps.
Houston's first acting role was as the star of the film The Bodyguard(1992).The movie's original soundtrack won the 1994 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.It's lead single I Will Always Love You became the best selling single by a female artist in music history.Houston became the first act(solo or group male or female) to sell more than a million copies of an album within a single week period.The album also makes her the only female act in the Top 100 list of the best selling albums of all time at number four.Houston continued to star in movies and contributing to their adjoining soundtracks including Waiting to Exhale(1995)and The Preacher's Wife(1996).The Preacher's Wife soundtrack would go on to became the best selling gospel albums in history.Three years later after the release of her fourth studio album My Love Is Your Love(1998)she renewed her recording contract with Arista Records.She released her fifth studio album Just Whitney in 2002 and the Christmas themed I Wish:The Holiday Album in 2003.Amid widespread coverage of personal turmoil Houston ended her 14 year marriage to singer Bobby Brown in 2004.In 2009 Houston released her seventh studio album I Look To You.
Early Life-(1977-84)-Whitney Houston was born in what was then a middle income neighborhood of Newark New Jersey.The third and youngest child of Army serviceman and entertainment executive John Russell Houston Sr(September 13 1920-February 2 2003)and gospel singer Cissy Houston.Whitney's mom along with cousins Dionne Warwick and Dee Dee Warwick and godmother Aretha Franklin were all notable figures in the gospel,rhythm and blues,pop and soul genres.Whitney was raised a Baptist but also exposed to the Pentecostal church.After the 1967 Newark riots the family moved to a middle class area in East Orange New Jersey when she was four.
At 11 Houston began to follow in her mother's footsteps and started performing as a soloist in the junior gospel choir at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark where she also learned how to play piano.Houston's first performance in the church was Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah.
When Houston was a teenager she attended a Catholic girls high school Mount Saint Dominic Academy where she met her best friend Robyn Crawford who she describes as ''the sister she never had''.While Houston still in school her mother continued to teach her how to sing.With addition to her Mother,Franklin and Warwick Houston was also exposed to the music of Chaka Khan,Glady's Knight and Roberta Flack whom would have an impact on her life as a singer and performer.

Egypt Daud Dean's parents songstress Alicia Keys and producer Swizz Beatz were leaving NoBu restaurant in New York City before Alicia took the stage for the second night in a row at Carnegie Hall with Hov.
Alicia is preparing for this year's Grammy's where she will pay homage to Etta James with a special performance with Bonnie Raitt.
