A Prayer for Those in Heaven who Fell on 9-11 By C. William Clarke

Do you remember where you were
when the sky rained fire
when the those who worked in the towers of glass and steel
fell to a madman’s desire
and while there were so many hurt by a single event
one that will live in infamy
as we return to build again like a society in its infancy
so much shared in our intimacy
so many people joined together
in the aftermath of this destruction
as tears fell like acid rain from the sky
leaving their mark on the now new site of construction
the soaring warring juggernaut
that came and took the lives
of so many of our brothers and sisters
our fathers and mothers our husbands and wives
as this hand of vengeance undeserved
reaped havoc on our land yet we still stand
for in the land of the free the home of the brave
we shall not become a terrorists slave
for that would spoil the memory
of those who look down on us as they whisper
remember me
the smoke covered the streets in a eerie mist
while people who where there struggled to comprehend
what had happened on that faithful day
when the New York twins fell and gave way
all we could do was pray
I recall seeing the event on my television
at first unmoved
discussing with my mate in amazement
where these special effects was this a movie
I was unaware
until I saw the wreckage in the pavement
my horror my fear my loss of hope
no words could escape my throat
as the fire flamed and the smoke billowed
in it’s damning cloak
all the people who were killed
all the innocent blood that was spilled
no choice but to unite in America’s  courageous voice
and so we rebuild
ten long years those who survived were left to move on
without their loved ones
so many still feeling reeling from the effects of  a disaster
as workers moved the steel  bricks and plaster
to redeem the dream the rise in our nations cream
we remember all those who gave their helping hands
in the ferocious fog where walked the mending man
and women who worked so hard
to help those whose names they did not know
not for show but for desire that is left
like the stains of the tears than were wept
the noble police men and mighty firefighters
parading on ground zero
our modern day heroes
immortalized by newspapers and writers
images that will still burn hot in our minds
now serve as the connecting nerves of the ties that bind
we will live on we will give strong
but in the same breath we shall never forget
hoping that our collective deeds will heal those still in need
for our city still bleeds
still grieves as on this day
we pray as one that we shall  strive to thrive
and overcome
as we silently say a prayer
for the survivors and the ones
who look down on us from heaven
they say the earth stood still that day
in the wake of all who remember the date
and those who fell on 9-11
